4/27/2023 0 Comments Windows 10 davmail outlookIn terms of productivity, this is a huge win over the free browser access, the money spent on this was basically made back on in time on the first day. As a developer I can appreciate that this is actually not an easy task to pull off, and Kent even offered some support for a Calendar provider. Connecting to the EWS server on Thunderbird Release was an absolute breeze, the price is really good and definitely worth the added comfort and stability. Evolution client (linux) with evolution-ews plugin: I have this configuration working on a linux machine, however it’s not as powerful as Davmail regarding the access to shared calendars (in public folders, see below). This only works for emails, not for accessing shared calendars Using any email client in POP3 or IMAP.This integrated fantastically well with my corporate Exchange account now I can use all my favorite Thunderbird addons and have the space saving ergonomic layout of Tb, plus ease of folder traversing "Next Unread Email" and tabbed mail I don't even have to be on VPN anymore to manage my mail. Any email client (Evolution, Thunderbird) with Davmail gateway: the solution that I’m currently working with.Thunderbird client (windows, linux) with ExQuilla addon: this is paid solution, I have not tested it.Requires linux obviously (not suitable in my work environment). Prerequesite: your exchange account needs to have “OWA” (Outlook Web Access) activated There are still some issues, but works “mostly”. There are actually quite a lot of resources on Davmail website, so I wont duplicate the information. Once downloaded and installed, you will need to configure it. You will need to identify the correct Outlook Web Access URL to access the exchange server, i.e. The path depends on Exchange version and configuration, with or without a reverse proxy. Exchange 2010 EWS mode with unsupported authentication form e.g.There are different versions of the path, depending on Exchange versions: DavMail must be able to find the authentication form at the provided URL. I document here my specific case, in case it may help anyone. My company had a reverse proxy to access the exchange server (). The tutorial from Davmail is very well done: Since then my company upgraded to Office 365. To access other users’ calendars, I used the following my installation notes, I noted “initial request for access to a shared calendar has to be done by Outlook, otherwise no access”. I did not follow through on this aspect but even today there are some calendars that I can actually open, but nothing shows up. Since this concerns only a few calendars that are not important to me, I did not pursue it through. I had some troubles regarding the access to contacts since the structure used by the Exchange server in my company was not “usual”. Instead of using the “global address list”, they created a specific list of contacts (name “Company contacts”, with a space). So the Davmail contact sync, based on LDAP, was syncing with an empty list. I therefore had to install another Thunderbird extension, called SOGo connector. As the title suggests, I’m going to take you through exact steps on how to setup Thunderbird + Lightning + DavMail on Ubuntu 10.04 for your corporate email and calendaring (both hosted on Microsoft Exchange server) needs. Let’s save the debate on why did I chose this particular combo only for some other day. Thunderbird doesn’t come pre-installed with Ubuntu 10.04, so we will need to install Thunderbird first. We will be using the Synaptic Package Manager and the aptitude utility that comes with Ubuntu for all the installations. When I am writing this, the latest versions for Thunderbird, Lightning and DavMail are 3.1, 1.0b2 and 3.6.6-1032 respectively. Open the Synaptic Package Manager from System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager. Search for “thunderbird”, select the entry “thunderbird”, right click and mark it for installation. SETUP THUNDERBIRD WITH DAVMAIL INSTALLĪpply the changes.įor those who are more comfortable with text commands, fire up a Terminal from Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal and install Thunderbird using the apt-get utility.Ī shortcut will be created for you in Applications -> Internet -> Thunderbird. You can either launch Thunderbird from there or just use the Terminal command “thunderbird”. If you are launching the Thunderbird for the first time, you will be greeted with a wizard to create a new mail account.
